In the New Kingdom at Thebes, memorial temples were perhaps used for ceremonies for a deceased king, for economic and administrative functions, and as a focal point for the important "Beautiful Festival of the Valley." Called "mortuary temples" in the past, the term is falling out of favor among Egyptologists nowadays as the purpose of the structures becomes better determined.
