An American Egyptologist who founded the University of Chicago’s Oriental Institute and its Luxor headquarters, Chicago House. He was the author of Ancient Records of Egypt (1906-1907), a five volume translation of Egyptian historical inscriptions, and History of Ancient Egypt (1908), which is considered a classic of Egyptological literature.
